Yang Li Zhou was born in 1942 in Shaanxi Province of China.
In 1957, Yang Li Zhou entered the Xi’an Art College where he began the learning of the fundamental Chinese Brush Painting. He graduated from the College in 1961 and continued the studies in the same College for his intensive training in painting at the university level. He completed his course in 1966. After his graduation, he began to work in a printing factory as Art Designer.
In 1972, Yang Li Zhou was transferred to Shanxi Provincial Art Creation Organization where he began his career as a professional artist.
In 1978, he entered the prestigious Beijing Central Art College for his further study of the Figure Painting. In the same year, he became a member of the Artists Association of China.
In 1980, Yang Li Zhou graduated from the Beijing Central Art College. From 1980 to 1984, he held numerous Solo and Joint Art Exhibitions in many different provinces in China. His painting Tai-Hung Wall of Iron won the gold medal in the 6th National Art Show. In the same year, he was transferred to the Cultural Ministry of China and appointed as the Deputy Head of the Art Bureau.
1985, he attended the 3rd Annual Conference of the National Artists Association and, was elected as the Executive Council member of the Association.
In 1986, Yang Li Zhou attended Art Exhibitions of Contemporary Chinese Paintings held in various countries i.e Hong Kong, Moscow and India.
In 1988, he held his Solo Art Exhibition in Taipei Taiwan. In 1989, he was appointed as one of the Honorable Judges in the 7th National Art Show.
