Biography of Gao Xiang Guo
Gao Xiang Guo was born in 1944 in Heilongjiang Province, China. Pennamed Jin Cao, is also known as Guandongren. He graduated from the Art Department of Harbin Teachers College in 1974. He is a member of the Artists Association of China, member of Shanxi Branch of CPPCC, council member of the Artists Association of Shanxi Province and Vice President of the Landscape Painting Association of Shanxi. He is a National First Grade Artist, an artist of the Taiyuan Painting Institute and a professional painter.

His works have been shown in a number of national and provincial exhibitions of fine arts, won awards, and published in more than 30 national newspapers, journals and magazines, including Fine Arts, Chinese Painters, Fine Arts Report, The people's Daily, Guangmin Daily, newspaper of Chinese Culture and Art and literature etc. Some 100 of his works are collected by the New Forth Army Museum in Beijing, Qingzhou Museum, Xu Beihong Memorial Hall, Xiao Hong Memorial Hall. He is also featured in more than 20 encyclopedia such as A Dictionary of Who's Who of Modern World Painters and, Who's Who of Chinese Specialists. His works are widely collected by overseas collectors in Japan, Switzerland, Singapore, Poland, Malaysia and, Hong Kong.

With over 30 years of painting experience, his works "neither conservative nor wild, he has been advancing step on the road of innovation and developed his unique northerly style of landscape painting." His works are characterized by the integration of emotion and situation, of the poetical and scenic. The loess of plateau that he paints is solid and sublime, full of philosophical implications. His strokes have moved beyond the sense of life and history toward a sense of universe.

Gao Xiang Guo's works have been shown in numerous national art exhibitions, including 6 solo art exhibitions in Beijing, Jiangsu, Shandong Hebei, Shanxi and other provinces. The major works exhibited include:

1987 : Years was selected for the National Fine Arts Exhibition for the Sixtieth Anniversary of the PLA in Beijing and won an excellent award at the Second Art and Literature Award of Taiyuan City.

1991 : Soul Of The Yellow Earth was selected for the National Fine Arts Exhibition for the Seventieth Anniversary of CPC in Beijing and won a first prize at the Shanxi Fine Arts Exhibition. Reviving was selected for the exhibition of Chinese Four Seasons in Japan and won an excellent award.

1993 : The Obsessed Land was selected for the First National Exhibition Chinese Paintings in Beijing and won a first prize at the Shanxi Fine Arts Exhibition. Plateau In The Dream was selected for the First National Exhibition of the Chinese Landscape paintings in Anhui. The Paintings of Gao Xiang Guo artbook was published by Shanxi People's Publishing's House.

1995 : Autumn Sounds was selected for the National Landscape Painting Exhibition in Beijing. Autumn Sounds was selected for the Third Winter Games of Asia Art Exhibition in Heilongjiang Province.

1997 : Autumn Tone was selected for the Invitational Exhibition of National Landscape Painting Masters in Beijing.

1998 : Brighter Moon Of Hometown was selected for the Gems of Contemporary Chinese Paintings in Jiangsu Province.

1999 : Our Woods was selected for the Ninth National Fine Arts Exhibition in Guangzhou City and won the first prize at the Shanxi Fine Arts Exhibition. Poplar in My Hometown was selected for the 300 painters Of Chinese Paintings Exhibition in He'nan Province. Autumn Tone was selected for the Millennium, Chinese Custom Art Exhibition in Yunnan. Red Sunsets was selected for the "Mengyang Cup" Invitational Exhibition of National artist in Gansu Province. Invited to Beijing to paint the Red Sunsets as part of the "100 meter Scroll of Chinese Landscape" for celebrating the return of Macao to China.

2000 : Specially invited to participate in the One Hundred Chinese Painters Of The Year 2000 exhibition in Jiangsu Province, for which he submitted two pieces, Herdsmen On The Way Home and Red Sunsets.

2001 : Invited by the Tiandu Art Gallery to hold a solo art exhibition in Singapore and an art catalogue Landscapes by Gao Xiang Guo was published.
