Artist, Zhang Sheng was born in 1955 in Kunshan City, Jiangsu province, China. As a young man, he studied painting with Zhang Jixin, a master artist famous for his flower and bird paintings. Mr Zhang later became a disciple of professor Chen Da Yu, well-known as a calligrapher and painter, and studied under the celebrated art master Liu Hai Su.

Exhibitions of Mr Zhang's paintings in China and overseas - such as Suzhou, Shanghai, Shandong, Taiwan, and Hongkong - have consistently received high critical acclaim. During the past ten years, he has won many awards in both domestic and international art exhibits and competitions. His works have been collected in a number of publications, including "Selected Paintings of Zhang Sheng" and "Selected Sketches of Zhang Sheng"(Hongkong Publishing House). "Pattern Designs of Arts and Crafts" and "Collections of Zhang Sheng's Sketches"(Jiangsu Publishing House). "Loose Leaf" and "Collection of Ink & Wash by Zhang Sheng (2nd Edition)" Published by Hongkong Publishing House. He is also included in numerous compendiums of Chinese artists, such as "Biographies of Contemporary Chinese Artists", "Dictionary of Chinese Contemporary Painters", "Dictionary of Folk Artists" and "Dictionary of Internationally Famous People".

His work has been featured in number of television broadcasts, including a Central Television production. "The Artist Zhang Sheng" and a segment of the national series "Eternal Attractions", introducing acclaimed contemporary Chinese painters and calligraphers. In addition to provincial productions, "The Splendid Lustre of Painting and Calligraphy" and "Ink Brilliance", his work has been introduced to American audiences through a public television program, "The Jiangnan artist Zhang Sheng".

He is a highly talented artist who has gained national and international recognition for his bold innovative style. His painting gave us a tranquil, fresh and moist impression, and his spilled color's paintings impressed us with their passion, strength and freedom. He lives in a region of rivers and lakes with beautiful landscapes in the south of the lower reaches of the Changjiang River. Blending the tints of nature with water, he paints the beauty of his hometown in his paintings, reflecting his personal charm. The water and colors are in perfect harmony.

Though Zhang Sheng's works now hang in art galleries, museums, and private collections around the world, he continues to refine his bold, expressive style. In his search for contemporary expression of traditional themes, he is forging a new path in Chinese folk painting. Surely, his best work is yet to come.

Presently, Mr Zhang is Director of the Kunshan Art Academy. In addition to this position, he serves on numerous national and international associations, including the Sino-Japanese Artists Exchange Association, the Arts and Crafts Artists Association. A member of Artist Association of Jiangsu province, A member of Flowers & Birds drawing Institute of Jiangsu province. An academician of Art Research Institute of China, the Jiangsu Aesthetic Association of China, and the Chinese Notable Painting & Calligraphy Academy.
