Artist Xiao Ping who uses the pen names Pingzhi, was born in Jiangsu Province in 1942.

His art is deeply influenced by the great painters Fu Baoshi, Ya Ming, Gao Ershi and Lin Sanzhi. He has loved painting since childhood, and has also studied calligraphy under his father. He graduated from the Jiangsu Academy of Traditional Chinese Painting in 1962, and subsequently accompanied his teacher Ya Ming on trips to the Taishan and Huangshan Mountains to learn and paint from nature. His study of ancient calligraphy and paintings has given him a good understanding of the skills and evolution of different schools in history. He often borrows from the ancients to create new styles. He excels in landscape painting, flower and figure painting and calligraphy.

In 1948 he was invited to the USA to lecture and had solo art exhibition. He has written a number of books explaining traditional methods in landscape and figure painting. He is an artist of Jiangsu Art Academy, Consultant of Jiangsu Art Museum, President of Jiangnan Calligraphy & Painting Academy. A member of the Artists Association of China.
